Dryer Vent Location?

Hi – Looking for advice. Our brownstone has always had laundry in the basement with the dryer venting all the way to the roof. We clean the line regularly, but when the booster fan recently broke, it came to my attention that this may not be the best setup.

Before I replace the dryer and fan, I’m trying to get some advice on whether we should consider other options. My calls to HVAC people, my plumber and electrician have gotten me nowhere. Any suggestions on who could help answer this? Is venting 4 stories up commonly done in brownstones? Thank you!!
