Dog poop and street litter

Previous to living in Brownstone Brooklyn, I lived in high rises in BK and NYC…and never noticed as much street litter or dog poop on sidewalks…especially around the building, as invariably it was getting cleaned by the building super etc. However, I now notice the ridiculous amount of dog poop and litter on sidewalk. Do some neighborhoods in BK have sidewalk cleaning arrangements with private contractors ? I know DOB can issue violations …but the volume of crap is just insane. Curious to hear thoughts on this topic

What is baffling is that these are most likely ppl who live in a 2 block radius. Just this AM, dog poop right in front of my neighbors house. Its not just this one example or just my block…several examples in the neighborhood. Really shameful!

I hang Times delivery bags (that I’ve checked for holes) on struts on my tree pit tree. It isn’t 100% successful (& people have even left a pile of doo adjacent to & even in the pit) but it has helped a lot over the past 5 years.

word is this is going to get worse now that pet owners will have to buy bags.

years ago, one person was walking a dog near an empty or side lot on my route to the subway at about the same time each day. in winter it was worse and looked like a mine field in the snow. i called the department of sanitation and they must have staked a guy out there the next morning. it stopped immediately. a month or so later it started up again and i called again and it stopped again. try the dept of sanitation.

Trash invites trash. You can wait forever till the DOB issues violations. I often clean the sidewalk on our block myself. It takes a bag, gloves and five minutes. Easy-peasy. Maybe some people find it comical, but it works.
