You mean you renovated two neighboring condo units, right? Sounds like the DOB has confused you, the owner of two units, with the entire condo building. What do your architect and expediter say? Good luck.

We took a Alt2 D14 permit out more than 4yrs ago to do some minor renovations on two neighboring condos, We self certified, no change of occupancy, egress or use, just moving some walls and doors basically. I used an architect and expeditor. During the process the DOB sent 2 people over to inspect the job. We passed muster and they closed the permit. Now more than 4 years later I get a letter in the mail from the DOB claiming they will be revoking the permit and approval via Sections 28-
104.2.10 and 28-105.10.1 with 30+ violations on our building. A majority of the violations in the letter are for issues in common areas not even related to the job we did. We have 15 days to respond. My Architect and Expeditor will respond to it and we will have to go fight it.

I have a few major issues with this situation however.

1. How can they audit and revoke a permit they closed over 4 years ago, isn’t there some statute of limitations?
2. What if I had sold the unit? I would get sued by the new owners?
3. How can they claim issue with external/common areas not related to what the permit was taken out for?
4. Assuming we get this cleaned up can they audit the audit in another 4 years? When will this stop?

This whole situation s mind boggling, I truly believe we are being targeted somehow. We also got a letter from them claiming separately we need to fix some cracks in the sidewalk out front yet the cracks are so small they are barely even noticeable and do not meet the standards the city requires for fixing.

Anyone ever go thru anything like this?

I cannot speak to the rest of this and want to hear what others say. It sounds like typical bereaucratic ignorance.

For the side walk. We had a crack that was not wide at all and not long. Maybe 8″ long from one side to the other side across a corner and they told us that it was a violation and had to be fixed. I don’t know why you are getting this notice but perhaps it has something to do with it being a condo. I suppose with condos. If there are other violations in the common area, they will notify owners who have permits or work going on?
