I need to install a dehumidifier in the basement of my townhouse. Can anyone recommend a brand that is quiet, economical, and isn’t too huge? (adequate for 700-100 square ft). Thanks.

We have one by Danby that’s decent. If at all possible, have it continuously drain to a waste line, as opposed to you emptying it every 24 hrs or so. It’s amazing how much it captures.

I bought this one and am very pleased with it. Yes, you must position it so that it drains by hose into a sink or drain. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AU7GZXE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The other thing that helps is to mount a 6″ diameter radon fan to exhaust the humidity. If your problem isn’t sever, this may do the trick. The humidifier I recommended above runs 24/7 and keeps a very wet rubble stone basement free of condensation.

If you don’t have a floor drain, buy a dehumidifier that comes with a pump.

We bought this heavy-duty one for our basement a few years back. It performs extremely well. It extracted 10+ gallons / day for the 1st week. After getting tired of hauling 5 gallon buckets of water up the stairs, we bought the pump as others have recommended.
I wouldn’t mind selling mine actually (we haven’t needed to use it after the 1st year). I paid a lot for it ($1600) but I would let it go for less than half price. If you’re interested, leave your contact info.

Santa Fe dehumidifiers are very good. I have installed them for a few clients and they have been happy with their performance. They are pricey.

@pmody and @2345bcde how well do the Santa Fe dehumidifiers work in Brooklyn cellars where the temperature in the winter could get below 50 degrees ?

I believe they are rated to 40f. We have two of them. The temp specs are listed on sylvane.com
