Dedicated wall outlets for window AC

Quick question for the electricians out there! Do dedicated wall outlets for window ACs need to be on their own independent circuits? Thanks!

Thanks @2345bcde and @Bob – I confirmed that it is a code requirement. Any idea if the new circuit can be on a tandem breaker?

I think it needs to be dedicated only to the ac.

In theory, no, depending upon what else is on that circuit and whether it’s a 15 amp or 20 amp circuit. If it’s in a kitchen and the toaster is also on it, it’ll flip the breaker. But if it’s just some lights, you’ll be fine.

I think it’s required by code;; maybe a not in practice
