Crumbling hole in facade, how can I determine the source of the damage

Following the winter, I found significant deterioration at the base of the facade along the party wall. There is a void approximately 7″ deep, exposing the structural brickwork. While the facade showed superficial crumbling over the previous years, the recent freeze-thaw cycles have caused the masonry to hollow out behind the paint layer. I suspect water infiltration is the root cause, but I need professional assistance to identify the source of the moisture and assess the structural impact. Can anyone recommend an experienced mason who could come and inspect the damage? I can share photos upfront.

Is this for a brownstone facade? Kevin Morgan has restored the facades on many houses in my neighborhood (PLG) including the brownstones on either side of my house. He also did an excellent job of repointing my limestone.
