Critters in the attic

Hi – my upstairs tenant says he’s hearing critters in the attic crawl space – suggestions of who to call to deal with this? Thank you.

Thanks all. I was advised by one of the three exterminators I spoke to – and each one had a different solution – one. Wanted me to place a trap on the ground for $500 he’d come check everyday for a racoon – although the noise is in the attic – but the third suggested we bang on the ceiling. Make the space uncomfortable for nesting – haven’t heard from my tenant since – sometimes it pays to be a bad neighbor 🙂

I believe that squirrels tend to make noise around dawn and dusk as they leave the attic to forage during the day and presumably sleep at night.

I’ve also been told that time of year is important as you probably don’t want to catch a parent and leave a litter behind.

They were getting into the space below our roof through the rear cornice – once we got them out we replaced the cornice since it was pretty worn and it would be too easy for new holes to be made by the squirrels.

We have had squirrels multiple times in our old roof. They will install temporary one-way trap doors and wait for a week until the squirrels have gone out for water. After a week, they patch up any observable gaps (usually under the eaves) and that solves the problem. No poisons or chemicals necessary.
