Cost of an Extension
I’m looking for ballpark figures on a one story extension with a deck on top. We’d like extension would be the full width (16’7″) but not sure about the depth, maybe 12′? our lot is very deep, 125′.
We don’t need plumbing in there and would like to do it as budget-friendly as possible. We are in a Landmarked area.
Anyone have any ballpark ideas as to 1) the costs for architect/engineer and 2) the costs of construction?

From what I’ve been told, expect to spend $40,000 at least for the barest minimum — in all likelihood, really far more. As well, doubtful an extension running full width of house would be allowed.

a lot of these folks don’t add extensions in the city. they renovate. some of them know the cost of the architect for such a venture, no doubt. this is my suggestion: see if you can find something on the ‘net about the cost of such a venture for this region (NYC specifically) based on the square foot. i see a lot of stuff written that states the value or cost of doing things “per sq ft” and you can times that by the footage. you may find a calculator that allows you to add things such as a full basement, or just a foundation and crawlspace.
there are people out there who can listen to what you want and say $$ per square foot and get you where you want to be.
