Conundrum: Child safety window guards compatible with shuttered windows?

Are there any child safety window guards that work on windows with internal pocket-type shutters? We purchased a leading brand from Amazon (Segal),, and the wood which they would be attached to the inside of the window is too narrow and the guards hit the handle which opens the window. This piece of wood is narrow because the shutter closes right next to it’ so no flexibility.. Do people install these guards on the outside? Or are there any tricks of the trade? Thanks for sharing your solutions. 🙂
