A plumber once told me to hire a concrete contractor, then notify the plumber that you will call them in as soon as the old concrete is out and the hole dug, and then concrete contractor will infill and finish the job after plumbing is completed. Same process for replacing underground gutter leaders in the backyard. You could pay a gc to oversee that simple effort, but it could cost you $$$ for that. I think these people are used to working together given that drains and cement go together. Because it involves a hole in your main drain, I wouldn’t be hiring the lowest cost bidders at least as far as the plumbing goes. My own under stoop vintage drain looks like a bit of a hack and leaks into the ground.

i would highly recommend using a good local, experienced, master plumber instead of a “waterproofing company”. Local because they know the terrain and service its ill-designed and executed housing stock; which neighborhoods flood and why (and where); and generally smarter. From my personal experience waterproofing companies in this area can be like the wild west, some of them want to crank out their one solution that fits all, shoddy work, and sometimes less than savory laborers. That was my experience anyway. I was pushed a solution i did not need because they “do it for everyone” and as a result i had water coming into my interior drain tiles and through the paltry 1/4 “ of cement they parges over them. In short, they actually created a problem i did not have. The sump system i designed worked nearly perfectly through ida but the problem they created was the only issue i really had. I would not recommend skimping when it comes to water or think these outfits have some kind of specialized skill – many are just cranking out bullshit.

I just read the google reviews – of the 4 reviews I see, 2 complained that he did not call them back to schedule work. I do know that Carlos is busy, he works a lot. I’ve had him do several jobs and have never had problems with his work. I’m actually waiting now for an estimate because I’d rather go with him than chance it with someone else.

FWIW, we used a local small plumbing firm that specializes in sewer pipes, drains and sewer systems to remove an existing problematic drain and install a fresh air vent under our stoop. They bore through concrete, cellar walls and brick walls all the time and were very precise. They opened and dug a trench in the concrete under our stoop, then filled it back in roughly. It was perfectly sufficient for many years, and we recently had the entire front yard, stoop and under stoop area refinished by a stone mason.
