I’m having a heck of a time finding someone to take on our smaller list of jobs in our Brownstone. All the recommended contractors seem to be only taking on really large (gut realm) jobs and the handymen I’ve tried are not up to par.

We’ve got a hodge podge of things that need to be done–outdoor ironwork needs serious scraping and to be painted, replace an exterior door, some wall tall replacement, a few electrical fixture replacements, and possibly repointing the back brick. Any recs?

I also have a side request for someone to repair our brownstone stoop steps–the entire front was redone by the previous owner and we don’t know who they used. It mostly looks great but the ice damaged the steps a couple of winters ago and they need some patching.

Thanks for any recommendations for people to use or to avoid.

It sounds like you need a variety of trades, rather than a contractor to tackle all of this. Iron worker, carpenter/door specialist/electrician/mason. The tiles could be handled by a handyman. If you search the forum under the various trades, you should get a lot of recommendations. The same person than can handle the rear brick repointing should also be able to handle the stoop repair.
