Does anyone have any suggestions for how best to remove a layer on concrete dust from a backyard and metal patio furniture?

There is a large construction project taking place on the property directly behind my backyard (which is a typical 20’x50′ concrete rectangle). The construction has resulted in my entire yard and patio furniture being covered in a layer on concrete dust. I have tried spraying the hard/patio furniture with a hose on the highest pressure setting, but it doesn’t seem to remove any dust. Now that the weather is getting warmer (and the construction project is largely complete) I’d like to reclaim use of my yard. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Sounds like it has hardened in which case you’ll have to seek legal remedy from the neighbors doing the work. Muriatic acid may remove it but not sure what it would do to the furniture.

Thanks DIBS. That neighbor would be the city of New York School Construction Authority and I’m fully indemnified against damage to my property. Hopefully they won’t fight me about the claim though… If we’re talking about muriatic acid, it sounds like I’ll need to call in my mason/facade guy to take a look. I was hoping there would be an easier solution, but perhaps not.

Get the builder who is making the mess to come in and remedy it. They may have a high power construction grade power washer but if they use it they will more than likely remove paint. Depending on the type of material your furniture is you may be able to get them to sand blast it (if metal) and repaint it for you. Good luck.

I think so you should hire a paving maintenance contractor.
