Chimney sweep recs

Just finished with A&A. Pretty happy with them. Seem honest, decent guys, family business. Arrived on time, job took just under an hour. I would definitely use them again.

Bob — they have one guy on the roof and one guy in the cellar The roof guy drops a rope with a weight on the end through to the cellar to see if there are any major obstructions. If not, they tie a brush to the weighted rope and then drop it through the flue from roof to cellar a few times. The cellar guy has a vacuum for all of the soot that is pushed down. They did a neat job — $150.

OK. So this is for a boiler flue. Yelp reviews rank “Best Cleaning 4U” #1 and A&A chimney #2. I will go with one or the other. I’ve heard of A&A, but not “Best.” Anyone have any experiences with either of these?

Chimney cleaning is probably an easy DIY job. If you hire a professional this year, watch them do it (especially how they detach and reattach the flue pipe). Then buy the brush and rods and you’re good to go in the future.

Oh, and I am not going up on our roof and going DIY when the house is 3.5 stories and the boiler is in the cellar. We have an alley right next to the chimney. So no friggin way am I doing this myself the next time. Not when this is costing $150.

Are you sure they are going to do it from the roof? Most chimney cleaners do it from the cellar.
