Cellar / Basement Dig - Need advice
Hi all, new homeowner and for the past couple of months have been collecting bids for digging out my basement. Not easy to find a contractor to do this, but that’s a post for another day. I think I’ve settle one (also have architect and engineer in place) and wondering if anyone has any rec’s, suggestions going into the project? First off, should I be alerting my home insurance that I’m doing underpinnings? Really open to any and all comments. Everything will be down according to DOB permitted and with a licensed contractor. Thanks much. FYI, it’s a 6 foot cellar and looks like I might only be able to get another foot, but it’ll help me avoid banging my head on the pipes!

Contractors cannot “Bid” on a job if you have no drawings specs etc of what specifically your Architect / Engineer want.
Also when it comes to the “Bid” process do not go with the cheapest. And ask for a quote; not a bid. When you get the quote have your Architects read it to make sure that it covers everything that is needed as well as their Insurance coverage.
If you send notice to your Insurance company they will want to see the contractors insurance + they will sell you an additional policy to cover them selves. (You! )
