Can You Store Battery Powered Tools in a Garden Shed?

slimc is most definitely correct to be concerned about the heat and i am as well but those of us who use these tools for work leave them in vans and trunks in the summer sun all the time and we do not seem to have an issue. it does not seem to shorten the life any or if it does, it is negligible. i find the cold much more troubling.

I built a wooden, non-insulated, rain shielded, walk-in shed in my backyard—with the idea I’d move all my garden tools from the basement into the shed.

Obviously metal hand tools like rakes, shovels, etc are no problem.

How about winter months?

If I remove he batteries, can I store the battery powered hand tools in the shed, or in the shed inside a metal job-site box?

the tools themselves will be ok. the problem with the batteries is that when you go to charge them and they are cold, they will read a “fault” until they warm up a little.

I remember my father used to rub on a small film of oil on all the metal parts, especially blades, of his tools BEFORE long periods of storage… Do people still do this.. or was that a “depression era thing.” Thnx.

my shed gets super hot – I would never keep batteries there.
