Brownstone stoop top coat
Is there such a thing? Our neighbor just had their stoop beautifully restored and in the course of having some work done to our house they speckled it heavily with cement splatter. They tried to clean it but it is very blotchy as brownstone is so soft and they really just made it worse. We want to have it redone for them. Is this a full redo or is there another way?
Thanks,
Caitlin

“stripped off” not “stopped off”.

I believe their stoop could be recoated. Essentially the mason would add a new final coat, probably about 1/2 an inch thick. Best if whoever did the original job does the repair. This is all assuming we’re talking about a job which stopped off the original stone and added new layers of stucco/faux brownstone (which is what 99% of facade redos are). If it was an actual restoration of actual, original (19th c.) brownstone then I’m afraid things will be more complicated and expensive.
