My insurance was about $2300 on average from 2017 – 2020.
Then the insurance has jumped massively. See below.
Insurance is from SageSure. My Manhattan condo has been steady all these years at $1250.
What’s going on? Can I call the insurance company and ask for a discount? Has anyone been able to get a lower rate? If so, thru whom?

Our Chubb policy jumped just under 8K (for a total of about 12k/year which seems insane). No explanation given, just an adjustment bill due in October (policy renews in December). It’s been impossible to understand the rationale behind it. When asked, they simply said “they re-evaluated your house at 6 million.” That in of itself is hilarious and I’d gladly sell Chubb my house for that….

Chubb seems like a ripoff. I have a MetLife policy that is now a Farmers policy, with the “coverage A+” clause that promises a full rebuild regardless of declared value.

Yeah, market value does not affect insurance, as State Farm constantly reminds me. However, renovation costs for both labor and materials have famously gone up during and since the pandemic, thanks to shortages and inflation.
