Boerum Hill Renovation Thoughts
Home automation is still in its infancy, as you will see once you start looking closely at products and realize their limitations. A lot things available now have cumbersome work arounds. Nest is company that seems to be cementing it’s position as a cornerstone for smart homes with thier aarms and thermostats. Orbi is good for wireless networks in brownstones and townhouses but not the best for apartments. I like Abode best for smart home security.

Looking for opinions from people who had a complete renovation. Looking for opinions on your experience setting up a smart home. Good experience or bad? And what companies did you evaluate?

I used Michael Politis of Automated Living Solutions (718-428-6600, mpolitis@autolivingsolutions.com) for an alarm system and a whole-house wifi installation. He also does more complex smart home installations. I was happy with his work. My biggest concern with smart home technology is obsolescence. Anything wired that you install today will seem mighty outdated in 5 years. It seems to me that most new smart home solutions use wireless technology, so they key is ensuring that you have strong wifi service throughout your house. In any event, Michael is a good, honest, person and can surely help you out.
