Big Open Pit Next Door

we’ve phoned 311 twice–part of their fence has fallen off and there are four children in our building who could fall in. fortunately its too cold to play outside now. The DOB has opened and shut the case twice now after “visiting” even though we’ve asked them to come around back to see — they can’t see from the front! Fence issue is obv. smaller than the big pit issue. Thanks for your responses!

Hi, I have the above (big open pit) next to my brownstone. Its a developer project (landmarked block) and it is on hold because they are crappy developers and damaged the building on the other side of the construction site. I’m worried about water and stability and various things. But I don’t know enough about it to know what to actually be worried about. Any ideas? The number on the construction site is out of service and there is a stop work order…

Yes, I’d be worried. It sounds like it may sit that way for quite a while and, during the spring rains, will accumulate water. You need to have an engineer assess the likelihood of damage to your property and what can be done to prevent it. Got any photos?

Sounds like a hazardous condition. I’d phone 311 & get the DoB to look at it & issue remedial work orders to the owner/developer.
