Basketball in the garden area of a brownstone

I’m sure the noise is annoying, and I wouldn’t want it next to my house, BUT a backyard basketball hoop has to be one of the most “suburban” problems ever posted here.

We live in a brownstone with an alleyway between the houses that leads to the garden.
The neighbors have put a basketball hoop on their house wall. The sound of the bouncing of the ball is projected loudly through this “sound tunnel” and into the garden. This is below our kitchen window. Is this considered good form?

I think the question of whether this is “good form” depends largely on whether the activity goes on unreasonably early, or late.

Yes, I agree with Bob. If there are times when it is particularly bothersome (too early, too late etc), no reason not to have a neighborly conversation about reaching some kind of compromise. they are under no obligation AFAIK, but just as part of city living is putting up with other people’s noise, foibles etc, so is having to contend with a neighbor’s complaint if you annoy them.

Who owns the alleyway? Is there an easement? If so what are its terms?
