Backyard stairs instead of a deck -- any guidance?

We initially thought we wanted a deck but we’re now leaning to just 5-6 stairs to the backyard and pavers because it seems like it will be a better use of space. Does anyone have any experience or opinions with this option? Are iron stairs our main option? Alternative materials? Other thoughts? Words of wisdom? My searches uncover a lot of images of Brooklyn backyards with iron decks and not many with just stairs so I’m having a hard time envisioning options and ideas.

I was actually about to post a similar question. For a few reasons (cost, light to garden level), we don’t really want a deck all the way across the parlor floor. We would rather have a small-ish landing (maybe a third the length of the parlor floor) and then L-shape stairs that turn into the yard. Does that change anything on the permitting front? Hoping so! It seems like permitting for decks and associated cost is a bit crazy. Thanks!

Mms…you wanted to see a pic of a metal stairs down to the yard. To do that you need a little platform leading to the steps. My client bought the house, but wanted more than a platform, so I built her a deck. you wanted to see options, so I posted some.

I second urban exteriors. 5-6 steps just too close to ground and take up valuable backyard space. A dozen stairs is deck-worthy to me.
