Backyard Reno: Permits Needed?

Hi All, did a little digging in the forums and couldn’t find exactly what I needed.

We’re thinking of sprucing up the backyard and want to install fencing (6′), add some blue stone to make a patio, synthetic lawn for the kids to play on and a 20′ retaining wall to break up the space a little.

I’ve been getting conflicting info from people – do we need permits to do this work?

Fencing I know we do not. Patio and lawn I would think not since it’s landscaping, but the retaining wall has me stumped.

Can anyone offer a concrete answer? I was unable to find anything on the DOB website either.

I think if you are doing new door / egress or deck and stairs you would need permits. Otherwise i dont believe its required.
