AWR Feedback for a broken waterline
Wow, you are VERY lucky! Our 2 year AWR/DEP nightmare continues. Despite having coverage, I’m out $13k for a water main replacement. AWR refuses to pay even though I have video evidence of the active leak to support my claim. The most frustrating part of the nightmare is that the company I assumed had my back, won’t return phone calls or letters explaining their rationale or evidence to support denial of our claim. Some guy from Liberty showed up, looked at a ditch full of ice and somehow determined AWR wasn’t liable. At this point, our only option is court.

Last month unexpectedly a sinkhole appeared on the street in front of my house. It was a pretty large cavity. Water could be heard rushing but no water was present so likely not related. I called 311 and DOT came by and they called DEP to check out the rushing water noise. The guy from DEP came and confirmed I had a broken water line after he checked my basement by listening. He gave me a 3 day notice and assured me since I have the AWR insurance that all would be taken care off including removing the old lead waterline since it was grandfathered in. All I had to do was call AWR, I spoke with someone and gave them the violation number and they said they’ll take care of everything. Within hours someone from Liberty showed up to see the problem and again confirmed the break in the line, he posted some no parking signs and told me they would be back after the weekend. Sure enough as soon as they took care of the permits a crew showed up at 8 am with an excavator, a bunch of trucks etc, etc and started digging.
A utility crew came by to make sure no gas line was compromised and the guys started digging up the street and under my stoop and changed the whole line to the water meter. They only shut the water off for a few hours. This was a tough job and it took a big crew all day getting that copper pipe in and it was really hot that day too. The guys were super nice and professional, took care of everything and cleaned up after themselves. Everything was tested and reconnected, even Natl Grid came by to check the gas meter. Long story short….all I did was make that 1 phone call to AWR and all was taken care off, permits, plumbers, everything and the insurance covered everything! This would have been a giant pain if I didn’t have the insurance of course. Same thing happened to my neighbor and 2 other ppl on my block.
I know ppl have issues and problems with this insurance but to me I’m very pleased I was insured.

Nice to have an upbeat story about AWR. Congratulations.

Not trying to be an advocate for anyone just telling readers my experience, had I not had the insurance I would have been very sad and out of many dollars. There was a question earlier on the forum if they ever paid out to subscribers and here’s my experience.
