Architect Nightmare in Brooklyn
Hey everybody, I was curious to have opinions here. I will make it quick. I started a reno on a brownstone and selected an architect that was supposed to do the interior design as well. She gave me a price that was cheaper than other. When we started the plans, she proposed to bring her contractors for quotes which I was open to. Their quote were 30% more expensive than my contractor (that I knew was doing a good job). I decided to go with my contractor. From there she starting to be a pure nightmare. We had pulled up demo permit while applyting for a reno permit and while demo we removed some load bearing partitions that an engineer approved weren’t going to cause a collapse at all, it was just to remove the risk of the floor to round itself, but we will have to put new one. She was supposed to certify the reno permit and it came denied since she didn’t self certify it. I wrote her a nice email with everything and said that I didn’t want to fight or anything and my goal was getting this project done, and if she was comfortable me paying an engineer just to add these be ams I will do it. Shet hen decided to walk away and say “i am choosing the option to just walk away and leave you right there”. I ended spending almost 10k on an alt 2 that has been windrowed by her, had to pay a new architect to start a new alt2 from scratch and after getting her crazy, she decided to sign off the demo permit ( didn’t receive the sign off but docs were submitted). On top of that, the plans she did were full of mistake (she closed the hastened when it was a mutiple dwelling etc… ) + i found out the interior design elements were copied and pasted from other projects, no research. Last but least, she called 311 claiming the work was done with no permit on weekend (false) to make sure we dont do anything with no permit How would you guys react?
