Anyone know if one of these driveway/garage awnings needs permits?

Yeah that’s the problem- a $1000 awning professionally and safely installed becomes a $10000 job once you need a drawing/architect/engineer/expediter/permit fees.

It’d be installed attached to the building and then bolted down to a concrete driveway, almost exactly as shown here. Not sure how this is viewed in terms of building code. my neighbor has one and i think he told me that it needed a permit. it is mounted to the ground and i think that is the determining factor. i can ask-

my memory on a lot of this stuff is good and he told me it required a permit. then i realized this, i put a temporary one of these up in another jurisdiction 20 years ago. there was some debate about whether it needed a permit (i said no because it was temporary). the customer went to the town and was told this “it would only require a permit if it were permanently affixed to the ground via concrete”. if a town on long island said that, it is almost certain that nyc will say that. the one nearby me is held to a concrete slab.

i am working from home these next couple of days and i will try to stop at his house and ask.
