Antique and historic (wood) mantel surround for sale

Here’s a link to the listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/324447804182

Just want to emphasize again, it’s a pretty massive mantel. I have absolutely nothing to do with the sale or the seller; I merely corresponded with him and was disappointed to find that it was too big for the space, and really want to make sure it ends up with someone who’ll value its history!

So I commented the other day on a thread about marble mantels (to recommend a guy named John Malli for any installations)… but I also wanted to post about a beautiful wood mantel that I came across on eBay. At first I was hoping to buy it to install somewhere else but it’s too big for the space (7.25 feet wide! Nearly 5 feet tall!), but I figured someone here might be able to find a good (literal) home for it…

It came from the old Engineers Club on 40th Street in Manhattan, which was built in 1907, and that’s where it’s actually still located. Members/honorees of the club included Edison and Tesla, and the person selling it says he thinks this was in the reception room when you first entered the club. He’s asking $750 for it, which even without the historic provenance is a pretty good deal (although it doesn’t have a summer cover or tiles).

I’m not sure if you can post eBay links here, but I’ll try in a follow-up comment. The listing is titled “antique fireplace mantel surround,” which… could honestly be a bit more unique/descriptive! In the meantime, I’m uploadi ng a photo. It appears to be resting on the mantel shelf, so don’t get too confused by the perspective!
