Affordable housing

Hello I am inquiring about affordable housing for disabled.

My self and my husband are disabled. We resides in a dangerous neighborhood, which makes us vulnerable to crimes.

Myself Rosalind had a major collision motor vehicle collision last year 2019 is what led me to become disabled. I had multiple surgeries.

My husband became disabled soon after. He’s totally disabled.

Looking for guidance for affordable housing for disabled.

Brooklyn Public Library used to have a social worker at every branch once a week to help people with applications to affordable housing. Please reach out via email or phone to a librarian at the Brooklyn Public Library and find out if they can still connect you with a social worker virtually — either by phone , Zoom, etc. The social workers may have an in and be able to hook you up, especially with housing not available to the general public, as well as make sure your application does not contain disqualifying errors. Many of the New Developments are built with Tax Payer subsidies to make sure that a certain percentage of the apartments built are for low income handicapped, elderly etc.
Of course it is not easy, but you need to try to navigate your way through on the HPD site: www.NYC.Gov/HPD & get yourselves on every list, keep applying… it takes time & a lot of hard work. But I do know people that have struck gold.
