Advise: Tile or Concrete Floor in Cellar

I suspect the contractors advised against it because of the possibility of moisture rising out of the ground and through the concrete which will likely eventually result in a separation of the tiles from the concrete. How about one of the many rubber/vinyl type cverings available. A lot of them are sold on DIY garage floor solutions websites. The rolled “coin” rubber is one of the better solutons.

Our cellar was mostly dirt when we moved in, but we recently had a new concrete floor repoured and waterproofed (highly recommend Amin Home Improvement 718.435.9337; they also did my rear facade). While the concrete floor is perfectly ok, I would like to install tile for aesthetic reasons. A couple of contractors have told me concrete is better than tile in the cellar. Is this true? Is there any reason to avoid putting tile in the cellar?

I have concrete and while we’ve enjoyed it for the several years we’ve had it, I’m not looking to get it polished for a nicer feel on the feet and easier to clean surface (lots of animals in the space). The tile will lose you a tiny amount of height and I’m loathe to add grouted flooring when it can be avoided. Any unevenness will become much more obvious with tile lines.
