30 - 45 gallons leaked in my cellar: what to do?

I learned the hard way that our laundry machine’s drain hose wasn’t installed properly. Between 30-45 gallons of water has now dampened the cellar floor that’s right below our laundry machine on the 1st floor. This area of the cellar is usually dry. What should I do now? Throw down some newspapers, hit it with a fan and nature will do the rest (pick up the papers when saturated and repeat as needed). But fix the leak too. Adding a drain will help but the tunneling is costly.

Your slab is fine. I bet you absorb more water underneath and don’t even notice. If you’re worried about this in the future you can install new products that continuously measure the pressure of your system and detects a water leak before it is an issue and allows you to shut off the main remotely. Moen makes one and I have it installed. Unit and install probably less than $1,000 and already I feel like it’s a great purchase. It shut the water off one time for me already. So I’m sold.

It’s fine. Consider adding a floor drain if this happens a lot. In summer it’s gets gross to have a west basement, mosquitoes love it. Now I’m sure chris petri will tell me how unprofessional I am, and it’s true. But you can just drill a hole through the slab and put a grate on it. Better would be a paint bucket with holes full of gravel. Professional worthy would be a vented ejector pump. If next time instead of drain hose malfunction you have a high pressure hose fail, you might really like this feature.

you can get a wet vac, but unless there is anything down there that you must dry asap, it will seep out. also, we have used mops and buckets, the commercial kinds in buildings. i know that sounds daunting but it goes fast.
