Hello,
We are looking to install a 2-wire intercom system for our townhouse. It’s a 2-unit townhouse so will need two doorbells on the same outdoor panel. Don’t need wifi access – just after a solid quality product that is easy to operate and where the outside panel can withstand our summers and winters without too much oxidization. Does anyone have a system with similar configuration that they are happy with and can recommend? Thank you in advance.

Lee Dan Communications makes the older style, utilitarian looking units we see in front of many multi family properties. i from time to time have to remove these units as i work on wood door frames and i find the lee dan product to be quite sturdy – the ones i have handled are not cheap plastic.
there is another reason why i like them. a customer once needed one modified. they were going from a two family to a three and needed a buzzer button added. the panel had a couple empty spots (like a circuit box might have additional room). i called Lee Dan out in hauppauge and told them we needed a button added and they said bring it out and give us an hour and we will take care of it. i don’t even think they charged a lot to do that. the customer service was good.

Thank you doorsbythetinkerswagon. This is great. i went to their website and they actually have the same system we currently own (they seem to be the only one to carry the product) so will reach out to them to see if anything can be done with our current one or if we need a new one. Thanks again!

initially when i did that work on the one i helped that customer with, we were going to buy a new door station and i did find one at an electrical supply house locally (in zip 11379). so all of these components can be had and changed out individually (power supply is the main box, often in the basement and then there are door stations and monitors in each apt and latch releases; the latch releases are a locksmith supply and do not require a specific brand but voltage must be compatible – usually 12-16 or 16-24). unlikely the entire system is shot.
i am not an electrician nor am i qualified to advise you on these things. and i am not marketing myself though i do change a lot of electronic latches (and they often need wood work around them that is outside the scope of either locksmiths or electricians).

I just installed this 2-wire video intercom system and it was very cheap and easy. https://becintegrated.com/video-intercom-systems/multi-tenant-apartment/mt-series-doorbell-video-entry

My thoughts on these is that running the wire is the hardest part.
