To Tip or Not to Tip?

I think I would consider what they are charging.  As the owner of a small contracting company, I sometimes do this kind of work (usually for existing customers) and I charge $60.00 per hour (if I do not know the customer I would charge 75 for the first hour/60 there after) and feel that my price is suitable enough that if they offered me a tip, I would decline it.    Now, if this guy is charging you 45 an hour and has his tools in order and moves fast, maybe a tip would be nice.  Steve

Hi, We are having a contractor who specializes in Ikea assembly put together a couple of big items for us. They are licensed etc and I’m not sure if tipping them when they are done is appropriate or not? The guy doing the assembly is the owner of the company..if that helps. Thanks for your insight!

You are not obligated to tip, if at the end of the assemble you are a hundred percent satisfied you could tip them but if the funds are not there you shouldn’t feel bad if you don’t tip cause you are already paying a fee for the service. I am a contractor and I never expect to get tip or for my guys to get tip but if we do get tip it is well apreciated. You will know what to do by the time they are done
