Spotted Lantern Flies are Back
Alas my grape vines are infested (for the second year) with spotted lantern flies. Right now they are the small black nymph stage. I didn’t have much luck combatting them last year. Anyone have some tips? One article says “Penn State reports that the following soaps work: Concern Insect Killing Soap C, Ortho Elementals Insecticidal Soap, and Safer Insect-Killing-Soap. People also report success using a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol and water”.

Thank you for your replies. I did a mass killing last week, but have been away from home. So we shall see what damage the lantern flies have done to my grape vines since. I guess in the great scheme of our terrible world this is not be biggest problem…

I have two insecticides in my house; liquid sevin and malathion. One of them will do the trick. The malathion smells bad so if it does not kill them they will move to the neighbor’s yard.
