Can a gas dryer be vented through a sewer "air pipe"?

We just purchased a home and are planning to install a washer/dryer in the basement. There are currently no hookups or ventliltion and my husband is planning on doing the installation himself. He was starting to drill/excavate a hole to the outside for the ventilation but this proved to be a bigger task than he expected with our thick stone walls. He’s now thinking that he can vent the dryer through the pipe we have in the basement that allows air into the sewage pipes. Is this a crazy idea? I’ve tried to find answers online and can’t find anything that recommends or discourages it. Thank you.

I had seen it vented to bathroom exhaust duct. I think today it is still connected this way. Correction was too expensive. I had seen condensing boilers venting into basement recreation area with kids playing there. Corrections were too expensive. Some people would kill themselves for the money. Those memories come to mind when I read posts like ” I got a quote to replace boiler for $5,000!!!!!!!”

i give props to a spouse that goes online and asks what is an obvious quesiton to many and prevents the other half from doing something really, really, really stupid.     when you’ve been through these nightmare projects and mentally will do anything to bargain the easier way out, you can appreciate the other half thinking clearly and asking questions.

Absolutely not. Direct vent appliance such as gas drier has to be vented according code with certain distance against windows , ground and fresh air intakes according codes.
