Wood suggestion/source for back of planter box?

We just put in a large planter running the width of our yard- the back of the planter is on our lot line with a chainlink fence which won’t hold the dirt in so we need a board or something to be the back wall of our planter (the front of the planter is brick). Since my wife wants to plant edibles, we want to avoid pressure-treated (even though they say the new PT is fine, we’re still a bit skeptical). Cedar would work, but it’s pricey since we’ll need 25′ wide and 18″ tall of it– and we will never actually see it so it doesn’t have to be the prettiest thing. Any other suggestions or ideas for this situation? Someone suggested plexiglas too, but I wasn’t sure that wouldn’t leach anything into the soil.

If you plan on staying there for more than 2 or three years I would bite the bullet and do it with cedar – any other wood is going to deteriorate in a rather short period of time and it’s gong to be a major pain to replace the rotted wood in the future. I guess you could consider stone or sometimes people are giving away left over blues stone that you could work with.

And if you have suggestions, it’d be great to know where to buy them– I tried Build it Green for cedar, but even that was real pricey.
