small repair to plaster medallion

A small piece of my plaster ceiling medallion is missing. It should be a relatively easy repair – all I need to do is duplicate a small area of the existing molding. I understand there is paint-on (or smoosh-on) stuff which dries to a mold which one could then fill with plaster. Anybody have any experience with this? Any idea where to get such mold-making stuff?
