Can I put up my small 4` by 7` storage shed in my front brownstone courtyard?

No structures are allowed in a front yard. If the old fart next door complains to DOB and you get a violation that could be a hassle for you. Why not just buy a fitted cover for it?

Am I allowed to put up my small 4`by 7` storage shed in my front brownstone courtyard? I plan on keeping my motorcycle, which I ride every day, there. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Is it illegal though? It is not a permanent fixture so my thinking is it should not be illegal. I will put it up next week to test them old farts living next to me.

It pretty much depends: – how high is this shed – how large is your front yard – are you in a landmarked area? If the shed is less than 4′ high, your front yard is large enough that you have at least 3′ clearance from your house and the sidewalk and your block isn’t landmarked, you’re probably fine. Otherwise, you’ll run afoul of DOB rules, or fire code or LPC regulations (which may or may not be enforced depending on your neighbors and/or luck.)

Why not just park your motorcycle in the areaway, put one of those fitted cloth covers over it, and avoid all the fuss?
