How to Remove Craptastic Manufactured Wood Floor?

http://cdn.brownstoner.com/4e33423d8821f-.jpg

The previous owner installed ugly fake wood flooring in the closet before he built some decent wooden shelves on top of it. I’d like to pull the flooring out but need some way to score it along the edge of the built-in so we can leave the shelves. No idea what tool to use — is there a saw that would cut this shallowly? The fake wood floor is about 1/2″ thick and original floor is right below it.

You can make cuts like this with an electric dremel tool. Search “dremel” on YouTube, there are video tutorials.

The brand of small oscillating saw that we use is Fein.  The blades are offset, can be set to different angles, and  with some **practice** you can undercut along an edge. You might cover the bottom of the shelf with tape to minimize scratches.  You can also use a chisel but the laminate will dull it quickly.  Some small quarter round could cover the edge.

No good options – I’d take the bulk out with a circular saw set just under .5 inches and on the edge I’d score with a utility blade and use a very sharp chisel to take out the rest. You can do it if your careful, slow and use sharp blades.

Maybe an oscillating tool would work.  Something like this:http://www.boschtools.com/Products/Tools/Pages/BoschProductCategory.aspx?catid=621

Good luck!
