Decorative concrete for basement floor- Need recommendation

I’m looking to replace carpet in my finished basement with a polished concrete floor. Can anyone recommend a contractor who can pour self leveling concrete, stain,  and finish with a polish or epoxy? I’m not having any luck finding a contractor who can do this. Thanks,

Update: My basement floor is now fixed and looks great. I hired Avant Design Inc to level and polish the existing concrete slab. The results came out better than I expected. The polished concrete looks much better tile and will be much easier to maintain and it also cost less than the quotes I received for tiling. Robert Rowen and his crew are very professional and hard working. I will upload pictures soon.

Hi, so, are you going for a micro-topping with an acid stain on it? If so, feel free to contact me. david crossman 9176870787 dcrossman357@gmail.com

I assume you’re hoping to leave the current slab in place and that’s why you’re looking at self leveling? I have had to deal with self leveling on a few jobs and I think in this case, I’d sort of work backwards and call concrete companies asking them if they supply wearable, stainable self leveling mix and then if they do, do they have anyone they can recomend for the job.  Lots of the self leveling mixes are not meant for finished floors, but are only used as sub-strates (that’s where the wearable comes in).  The few times I’ve been involved with it, we used it over pre-cast plank to fill/level only.  We had to cover with a finished flooring product because the finished product wasn’t something that you’d want exposed, it came out a little grainy, not that slick look you get with a good trowel finish and the installer said it wouldn’t hold up to extended foot traffic.  Also, make sure you find out how thick it has to be applied and if the current slab has to be shot or scarcified prior to the pour. Sorry I can’t give you any idea of cost, the project manager handled that, but I do know she said it wasn’t cheap.  It worked for us because then we could go with the plank floors, so we paid in one are, but saved in another.  I’m not sure that’s going to apply with a typical basement.  Good luck with your project and please post to let us know how it works out.

I have not investigated using self leveling concrete but we had our entire basement slab removed and repoured. The process of smoothing out the concrete is done repeatedly as the slab drys. We used Jabus Building Corporation in Red Hook: jabusbuildingcorp@gmail.com/718-852-5364\. I highly recommnend them. Note that we have not completed our project; we still need to stain and seal the floor. Good luck.
