How do I know if my dual CO2 / smoke alarm is still good?

There are new 9 year (sealed battery) ones on the market now but I just use a plug in one.

I’ve heard that CO2 sensors are good for about 5 or 6 years and smoke sensors more like 10 years. The dual CO2/smoke alarm I have is dated 2008. It still appears to work- light flashes intermittently and test button says it is functioning- but is there any way to be sure the C02 sensor is still working fine? I know it chirps if the batteries are going, but what about the sensor? Or is this the type of thing that you just automatically replace after it’s standard lifespan is up? Any thoughts appreciated.

I believe most of them will give you some sort of indication. If you don’t still have the directions, you can always look up the pdf file online for your unit.

If it’s detecting CO2 probably should go off like crazy with just your family breathing in the home. CO monitor I am assuming? 😉 In my experience I replace my CO/Smoke detectors as per the manufacturer’s recommendation, even a bit earlier. They are not that expensive and worth it to me considering the alternative if it is faulty. To get 7 years out of anything these days is pretty good, IMO!
