I would like to know if one can install an interior, re circulating hood/vent with a lacanche Cluny or a Cluny 1400?
You would need an 8-10″ vent line to properly vent the stoves/ranges you are looking at. It may require making a larger opening to the exterior and running new pipe. Any good contractor should be able to do this.

Can I use an interior, recirculating hood/vent if I cannot vent to the outside? My co op board is cool with it as long as it works properly but I am not sure if the range I am looking at will work with such a hood/vent? Has anyone installed an interior, re circulating hood/vent with a LaCanche Cluny or Cluny 1400\. It would be the all gas range. Cheers.

I doubt the hood’s efficacy depends on the brand name of the range, but nice to know you’re going Very High-End. Or vice versa. What is your exact concern?

I wanted to know if anyone has installed a gas range with a recirculating hood/vent, specifically a Wolf double gas with French top, the Lacanche either the Cluny or the Cluny1400, or the Thermador 48″ all gas range. We have a vent to the outside that measures 6-7″ in diameter. Any idea how I can install any of the above ranges? I.really prefer the LaCanche – it’s been 24 yrs since I have had a remodel and I have been working in a galley kitchen – and we are going to take a leap and take down a wall to enarge the kitchen. Is there any combination of venting and recirculating hood that could be used. I am trying to find a way to install one of these ranges and haven’t given up. How would you install such a range with the 6-7″ current outside vent if it cannot be enlarged?

A 6″ vent is standard and should accomodate any normal hood. Now you mey be looking at restaurant-sized hoods that vent 800-1200 cfm. Believe me, you don’t want one. It will suck all the heated/cooled air from the floor and is noisy to boot. Unless you’re planning serious bbq type stuff, a normal hood (250-400) can vent thru the 6″. And yes, a recirculating hood is better than nothing but not by much. Otoh, I lived 15 years in an apt with no outside vent and don’t remember any excessive cleanups necessary. It’s not the range that determines the vent capacity, it’s your cooking style.

Below is from the Lacanche website regarding general venting and then specifically as to the 2 models I am thinking about. Given the information below, if I can’t change the outside duct size, can I still put in the Cluny or the Cluny 1400? _NOTES: To provide adequate ventilation for your LACANCHE, a general “rule of thumb” for determining approximate CFM (cubic feet per minute) exhaust requirement is to allow 100 CFM for every 10000 BTU’s of range output; e.g. Cluny LG1052GE = 73,500 BTU total, so 73,500/100 = 735 CFM. __Another “rule” is to allow 65 CFM for every square foot of cooktop surface. This does not take into account a gas oven output nor total burner BTU output so a smaller number will be given; e.g. Cluny LG1052GE> 3.25 ft Wide x 2.25 ft Deep = 7.31 sq ft x 65 = 475 CFM. Anywhere between those 2 numbers would be adequate._ Blowers should be rated at **600-900 cfm**, with 8″ round ducting, or equivalent. – for the 39″ wide Cluny model Blowers should be rated at **900-1300 cfm**, with 10″ round ducting, or equivalent – for the 55″ wide Cluny model
