Repainting brownstone facade / exterior

Brownstone is sandstone, it’s soft. Painting traps water inside and over time will cause damage to the sandstone and it will flake and crumble. I painted my stoop once and wish I hadn’t. The proper way to make repairs is to mix color to cement.

My husband and I are looking to repaint the facade of our brownstone. What products and methods do you recommend? Does anyone have any experience using therocoat or elastomeric paint?
