Hi – wondering if anyone has any recommendations of where to get salvaged slate or bluestone pavers? Ideally we’re looking for larger-sizes sidewalk style pavers that will be used in our rear garden. I’ve googled nearby architectural salvage places but interested in whether folks have any strong recommendations. Willing to travel within a reasonable distance.

Thanks! I have managed to find someone to do it as did not want to supervise the job and drive anything anymore (I supervised the entire remodel and am tired). This was before your offer to facilitate. Thank you for the advice and info! ps – I didn’t want to post personal info as well. xchx – thanks for this breakdown! Can’t believe you needed so much dirt for 150 square feet paved! Though that sounds like it’s around 2 m3, which seems more manageable :). I would need twice that both in terms of volume and costs. And yes, all has to be carried by hand through the apartment, the entire length of a row house. I originally wanted to grade the yard and lay sod, but tenants preferred something low maintenance. I think I may have to reconsider sod as it seems easier all around. Any recs on who can level the yard? Carry in by hand, I’m afraid. Thank you!

We had to dump 6,600 pounds of dirt. The weight of two cars.And then we had to move in an almost equivalent amount of pavers and sand. Everything had to be carried by hand through the house.

I had like 15×10 paved, so 150 square feet. It was a ton of work – especially because we have to go back and forth through the house carrying everything. If you have an alley or driveway to the yard that would make it easier. With two guys working and me working part of the time, it took 3 days.

A pro will recommend digging down 8″ and filling with gravel then sand then pavers. I thought that was overkill and only dug down the depth of the pavers and 1″ for sand. Time will tell if that is OK.

The pavers and sand cost $500 delivered. Just the dump fees to dump the dirt was $350. And then you’ve got to pay the guys.

I just had a great handyman install pavers for me at a reasonable price, and he did a very nice and professional job. He doesn’t have a truck so you’d have to get the pavers delivered. Roberto and Javier – 347-920-9631

by the way this is a pretty big project, personally I wouldn’t do it just as a favor to a tenant. Just removing the dirt and leveling the yard to get it ready is a lot of work.
