Looking for cast iron newel post

That is a beauty Adam. It’s going to be very difficult to find an original (as I’m sure you know) and then there’s the risk of breakage in handling as the iron is now has over 100 years of wear, thinning and cracking. You might want to go right to fabrication if you have one to us as a model. I know it’s expensive. I had my railing recreated many years ago by Star Metal in Brooklyn. The guy’s name is David something. And later a couple of my neighbors borrowed my model newel post (I had one) and had him recreate for them. Don’t know if he’s still working. Good luck. It will be beautiful.

I’m renovating/restoring a house in the Bedford Historic district of Bed Stuy and looking for a similar newel post. Ours disappeared over the last century. House is Neo-Grec with Second Empire Mansard roof. The picture is of a newel post on the same block from the same builder. We can use the same or similar. I’ve checked with the guy by Lowe’s under the Gowanus and he sold his last one a few months back. Any leads? I may in fact have it reproduced but looking first for an original.
