ISO Recs and advice for below-stoop entrance lighting
Thanks, Dave. I’ve used Paul Laidlaw for years; I’ll try him too.

I need to light up that spot not for security but so my elderly but independent mother-in-law can see to unlock the gate on the rare occasion she comes in alone after dark. (There’s a fixture under the stoop over her door; we need to light the gate enclosing the stoop entrance.) LPC guidelines are, happily and uncharacteristically, vague. They do say the wiring has to go through the masonry (no exposed conduit). Do I need someone other than the electrician to put a hole through the exterior wall? Has anyone got any brilliant ideas about what kind of light so that it’s sufficient for her to see (not just a gentle glow) or how to position?

2 neighbors of mine in 2 separate buildings got little intense lights that turn on when someone approaches. They’re either solar or batter powered – no wires. Attach to bars on the downstairs window & are aimed at the door. I imagine they’re from Lowe’s or HD – neither of the neighbors is ‘handy’.

Thanks, Arkady. That could be at least a great temporary solution.

Give Ceriello a call. I suspect most real electricians are equipped to drill through masonry to route a cable.
