Cost to build a front yard cellar entrance
@Jastuy We are thinking to do the same. Who did you end up using and how did it turn out? Was the ballpark figures above correct– in the $7500-8500 range or the $15,000-20000 range?

Our cellar has an opening so we can climb up to the front yard if needed. We have been considering to dig up the front yard concrete and install a concrete or metal staircase that leads to the cellar opening so we can enter or exit the cellar directly from the front yard. It appears many brownstoners in bedstuy have front yard cellar entrance. Just wondering if anyone has a ball park figure of cost for such a project. Thank you.

If you are on a Landmark block you cannot get landmarks to approve this.
Metal steps down into the cellar will be a pain to maintain..Rust.
Best to use concrete block with a steal hatch.
If you can co-ordinate the excavation and the concrete and the steal components, depending on the size, the depth and other site conditions it could be done for about $7,500 – 8,500.
If you need one contractor to coordinate all the subs and plan the whole thing; I would estimate $15,000 – 20,000

It’s not clear whether you have a big enough hole & wouldn’t need excavation. If it’s just a matter of building steps, you could probably do concrete blocks yourself.
