Bluestone patio joints

The sand is settling, you can get some more and keep sweeping it into the gaps and it will eventually compact in, but still allow rain drainage.
Sow some creeping thyme seeds in the gaps, that will hold it together, smell great when you walk across it and keep weeds at bay.

We just had a new bluestone patio put in with a sand set. They installed properly and used regular sand in the joints. However it has only been a week and much of the sand has completely washed out and every time we sweep up, we are pulling sand out.
We have a very small backyard and there is not a drain in the patio which takes up the entire yard. So far even with the heavy rain we have not had any drainage issues because the rain seeps through the sand.
I’ve read that they should’ve used polymeric sand between the joints to keep the sand there, but apparently they used what they’ve used everywhere in Park Slope, regular sand. And they said that the rain will NOT drain through the polymeric sand.
Ive read conflicting things online and don’t know what to do.
What is the normal application here in Brooklyn where folks usually “pave” their entire backyard with stone?
Thanks!
Cindy
