AC on Roof -- Noise, Vibration?

We’re investigating adding central air as part of a reno and we’re trying to understand if there will be a negative quality of life impact for our neighbors who live on the top floor. We plan on installing a Mitsubishi City split system on a steel beam. Would love to hear from people who have AC on their roof & whether there is any noticeable noise / vibration? There is a skylight on the roof over the staircase, no skylights in the apts.  Does it help or matter where the unit is placed?

Hmmm… Our DOB plan examiner approved parapet to parapet… We’re under construction now. Not sure how that will play out when we need to get a C of O. Maybe we’ll need a ladder up and over.

 If installed properly you will not have any vibrations. As with any air conditioner there will always be a noise from the compressor. The noise is not loud per say. Much quiter than your average street noise of cars, honking, etc.  Call Aaron for a quote and to tell you if and how it will effect your neighbors. My bedrooms are on the top floor.  You can hear a vague distant hum when the unit kicks on but nothing disturbing and no vibration.  I have the old parapet to parapet steel install.  I was careful that the unit was not visible from either the street or the backyard and also not visible from any of the 3 skylights.

No noise/vibration with a proper install. Unit should be place on cork/rubber vibration pads on the beams. I could be wrong but under old code beams could be placed parapet to parapet. No beams have to be placed 45deg angle in corner so as not to impede movement of firefighters on the roof.
