network cable run needed (with fibre scope)

I need someone to run a cat 5 cable from the 4th floor of our brownstone to the basement. They will need a fibre optic scope to chase the cable through the interior walls. Already have the cable etc sitting here, just need somene with a long enough scope to chase the cable through the shaftway. Anyone own a scope or recomend someone they have used before?

my contact details are on www.collins.net.pr

In that case you’re going to want to use shielded cable and bond one end of that drain wire. Running data cables in paralel with electric is never advisable.

the access way i’m intending to use “is” the electrical riser, like i said there is one section thats a problem, the rest is fine which is why i need the scope.

As said – but reiterated here… scopes are great for office buildings with drop ceilings and /or raised floors, where a path isn’t necessarily the problem – just access.  In an old home – you’re wasting time and money if you insist on that route.  you’ll be getting hung up every 5 feet.
for a data run – don’t you have a path straight down to the basement, via heating, waste pipe, vent, or other? usually alongside the chimney stacks, etc. knock ont he walls near the chimney, and see what’s hollow.
Also – what cable do you have?  cat5 is already dated, and not future proof.  Might also not be appropriate for this type of installation.   Get yourself some cat6, gig certified (cat 5 will handle gig, but it’s noisy at that speed with any length to it.  I wouldn’t trust cat5 past 50′ at gigE speeds) and GET PLENUM cable.   I can’t reiterate this enough. plenum resists moisture, heat and puncture much better than non plenum.  If you have a spool of cat 5, and it isn’t plenum..   that’s intended for patch cords and exposed interconnects.  Plenum is what you want for in-wall.

I tried to snake it through but couldn’t see what the issue was between the 1st and 2nd floor (i have an access panel on the 3rd floor hallway and can get it the first 30′ but not from the ceiling of the 1st floor to the basement (eg the last 10′) thats why i need a scope in order to snake it through.

If i could borrow a long scope i could do it myself (cant find one for rental at anything less than a few hundred dollars so may as well hire someone for an hour to do the job as will cost the same).

The scop will be useless. It will simply confirm what you already know – that there are cats in the wall. You’re not getting past them without drilling them and to do this you’re probably going to need to open the walls. That said, if your plaster is solid you can try one of my tricks: Make one decent opening on the 4th floor and get a window sash weight with a length of chain or rope attached and drop it down the wall. The cats were typically just tacked in to keep the studs from twisting until the walls were complete. A swift shot from the window weight usually knocks them right out.

If you have a mechanical shaft (plumbing is typical), I don’t see how a scope will help.  A snake should suffice.  If you don’t have a good mechanical shaft, you could end up with fire blocking and so forth in the way, and you might have to punch a couple of holes in walls here and there.  I work with EZNet for all of my low voltage.  http://www.eznetcom.com/
