Kill Switch on Building Buzzer
I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a simple way to add a kill switch to the building entry door buzzer in my apartment. I live in a small coop, and it seems UPS/Fedex delivery always seems to come during my child’s naps. The packages are not for us, but the delivery person rings all apartments, frequently waking my child up. I would like the ability to turn off the buzzer in my apartment during certain times of the day. Thanks

Thanks for the the info! Very helpful. This sounds like a good do-it-yourself project.

Great idea, I did it years ago. Same nap story. Simple buzzer sytem. I opened the box and just put a little toggle switch on the buzzer wire. I drilled a hole in the face to add the toggle. Years ago I would write all the colored wire connections on a piece of tape inside the buzzer, but now I use a digital picture. Maybe an hours worth of actual work. Low tech would be to hang just about anything to muffle the sound. Put a little cup hook up and hang a stuffed animal in front. Or a shoebox filled with foam. I always forgot to switch it back on, not a big deal in a world of cell phones. I also don’t miss the Jehovah’s or the ACLU disturbing dinner, or my father in law.

Any electrician can do this for you, or even a competent handyman. Simple job.
