Home networking help

During a major renovation last year, we installed cat 6 outlets around the house, all running to a central modem. Our goal was to hard wire computers and the phone and put in a strong house-wide wireless network. But it doesn’t work (and never has). We’ve called back the electrician, Time Warner, the GC have spent hours on the phone with various companys’ customer service. We need a professional to come in and figure out what the problem is. Any recommendations?

Which part of it doesn’t work? Do the wired jacks themselves not work or is it just the whole-house wireless that isn’t working?

You should be looking for a cable tech (computer person) We test lines for continuity and label etc. Once we know what works and where it goes, we can design a network that utilizes the functioning portion of the network. In my years of experience, it usually is a combination of small, stupid things. This jack punched down A, that one punched down B. Re-terminating the affected lines often improves the situation. Typically we temporarily set up a known functioning network, eliminating all existing infrastructure, then we add your pieces one at a time till we discover the failed portions. Neither an electrician nor a cable tech would have a clue.

Change 1 of the 3 variables. Get a new electrician to take a look or Time Warner tech to go on site. Maybe the wires are not run correctly.
